One study from the Cancer Prevention Research Journal has even found that a woman could be as much as 41 percent more likely to develop ovarian cancer after using talcum powder near their genitals. Despite the evidence against talc powder, companies like Johnson & Johnson continued to produce products with the substance. Johnson & Johnson Halts Talcum Powder Sales in United States

In May of 2020, Johnson & Johnson announced that it would stop selling its talcum-based baby powder products in the United States and Canada. This announcement marked the first time Johnson & Johnson stopped selling this product in over 100 years. Notably, the pharmaceutical giant maintained its stance that the talcum powder is safe to use, and it still disputes the scientific studies that have linked the substance to ovarian cancer.
